... 1993 (15 years ago today) , the North American Free Trade Agreement was signed into U.S. law by President Bill Clinton. The tripartite treaty known as NAFTA, subject of many IntLawGrrls posts, eliminated nearly all trade restrictions among the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

... 1953 (55 years ago today), U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower delivered to the U.N. General Assembly in New York what came to be known as the "Atoms for Peace" speech, in which he proposed that countries with nuclear programs should give fissionable materials to nonnuclear countries in order that the technology be put to use for peaceful purposes.
