... 1909 (100 years ago today), the Nobel Prize for Literature was presented to Swedish writer Selma Lagerlöf (right). Author of novels, travelogues, and historical works, she won much acclaim for Gösta Berlings Saga (The story of Gösta Berling), a romanticist 1st novel whose fantasy elements are akin to magical realism, published in 1891.
... 1983 (25 years ago today), military rule ended as Raúl Alfonsín, became President of Argentina (flag at left). The return of civilian government marked the end of repression of political dissidents, known as the Dirty War of 1976-83.
