General Assembly adopted Resolution 1962 (XVIII), the Declaration of Legal Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space. It proclaimed outer space a commons in which activities that harmed any state would be forbidden.
... 1988 (20 years ago today), representatives of Angola, Cuba, and South Africa met to sign an agreement calling for Cuban troop withdrawal from southwest Africa. The region would become the independent state of Namibia (flag at left) the following year.
