
... 1998 (10 years ago today), at Abuja, Nigeria, a peace agreement was signed by the government of Guinea-Bissau and a "self-proclaimed Military Junta" led by the former Army Chief of Staff for the country. The agreement ended a civil war begun 4 months earlier. But "security concerns" remained in the West African state (left), which had been a Portuguese colony until the early 1970s.
