On this day in ...... 1979, following years of negotiations (prior post), the United States and the People's Republic of China entered into full diplomatic relations. U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Chinese Prime Minister Hua Kuo-feng, as well as their foreign ministers and other leaders and diplomats, marked the milestone with toasts.
