On this day in ...... 1973, teams of inspectors known as the International Commission of Control and Supervision began monitoring a truce in the U.S.-Vietnam War, pursuant to an agreement reached a few days earlier at peace talks in Paris. The commission included delegates from Hungary, Poland, Canada and Indonesia. Sporadic fighting would continue, ending "with the fall of Saigon in April 1975 and the reunification of the country under communist rule."
