... 1934, violence in Linz, Austria, set off 4 days of "skirmishes between socialist and conservative-fascist forces" in many cities in the country. (credit for photo of soldiers deployed in Vienna on this day) The event is sometimes called the Österreichischer Bürgerkrieg, or "Austrian Civil War"; it resulted in hundreds of deaths, more than a thousand arrests, and the exile of some leaders. Its longterm historical significance seems a subject of debate, judging from sites like this and this.
