On this day in ...... 2001 (10 years ago today), by a vote of 338 to 52, the Parliament of the European Union approved a measure to regulate genetically modified organisms. Cast amid "intense suspicions" about GMOs, the vote in favor of regulations on testing, planting, and distribution paved the way for an end to "Europe's unofficial moratorium on bioengineered seeds and food."

We embrace foremothers' names to encourage crisp commentary, delivered at times with a dash of sass. We welcome replies, and we look forward to fresh dialogue on the matters of the day.
