On this day in ...... 1901 (110 years ago today), Marthe Francillon-Rouville, "the daughter of a clergyman," became the 1st woman in France "to obtain the much-coveted title of interne des hôpitaux" of Paris. She broke into the French medical profession by placing 52d on a list of more than 600 candidates. And 76 other women were on that list as well, for the 1st time ever. In a book published the previous year, Francillon-Rouville was listed as a member, along with Jane Addams (an IntLawGrrls foremother) and many other women, of the 2e Congrès international des œuvres et institutions féminines/2d International Congress of Women's Charities and Institutions, held in Paris.
