
... 1875 (135 years ago today), Gracie Annie Lockhart became the 1st woman in the British Empire to earn a university degree. Lockhart (left), then 20 years old, was graduated with a bachelor's degree from Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick, which in 1854 had opened the 1st and only college for women in Canada.
