On this day in ...... 1954, Violeta Neubauer (right) was born in Postojna in what is now the independent nation-state of Slovenia. She studied sociology at the University of Ljubljana. Neubauer's written nearly a dozen books on gender equality and human rights, and has worked on such issues at the national, regional, and international levels. She is a member of the United Nations' Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.
