Have been a fan of the Triple Crown since covering the Kentucky Derby while a reporter for the Lexington Herald-Leader, trolling the Churchill Downs clubhouse in Louisville for interviews with the likes of Abbie Hoffman, Amy Carter, Linda Carter, and then-Vice President George H.W. Bush (in the men's bathroom, I fear to admit). Fond memories, too, of witnessing a photo-finish Preakness Stakes at Pimlico in Baltimore. (A junket to the 3d jewel, the Belmont Stakes, awaits.)And so can't help but celebrate yesterday's Preakness win. A three-year-old bay named Rachel Alexandra (right) beat the boys to the finish line, making the filly the 1st female to win since Nellie Morse 85 years ago. (photo credit)
