On this day in ...... 1649, in what was then part of Nouvelle-France (left) and is now Quebec, "[t]he first executioner in Canada, a pardoned criminal, perform[ed] his first assignment." the subject of this 1st use of capital punishment in Canada was "a 16 year old girl found guilty of theft."
