to encourage critical inquiry and collaborative discussion among graduate students and junior faculty members, providing a forum in which to explore the work at play in various projects aimed at historicizing and redefining international, transnational, and comparative law and legal scholarship.
In addition to these discussions, there will be a keynote address by Dr. Martti Koskenniemi, Academy Professor, University of Helsinki, Finland.
In keeping with this year's theme, Concerning States of Mind, Disturbing the Minds of States,
[a]pplicants are encouraged to submit papers that concern and disturb the existing limits and competing logics of international, transnational, and comparative law and legal scholarship.
As fully detailed here, papers may examine the issues through "streams," emphasizing law and legal scholarship on:
► transnational corporations;
► global cities;
► national traditions in international law;
► workplace law;
► trans-identity jurisprudence in transnational law;
► the il/legitimacy of international constitutionalization; and
► art’s visceral/visual challenge to black-letter law and legal regulation.
Deadline for submission, to torontogroup2010@gmail.com, of "proposals for presentations, panels and other interventions" is October 19, 2009. Details here.
