The Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Boston College, Newton, Massachusetts, is seeking a Human Rights Fellow for the Post-Deportation Human Rights Project, its new initiative. (hat tip)
The successful applicant for the 1-year position, set to begin in August, will aid the project's work in counseling, supporting, and representing individuals who have been deported; investigating the effects of harsh deportation policies on families and communities; advocating fundamental changes that will introduce legal predictability, proportionality, compassion, and respect for family unity into U.S. immigration law and policy; and reframing deportation policy as a matter of international human rights. The Fellow will inter alia collaborate with the Boston College Law School, Lynch School of Education, and Graduate School of Social Work; develop training materials; conduct client intake; recruit and mentor pro bono attorneys; supervise law students; and draft human rights reports.
Candidates must have a J.D. or LL.M. degree, be proficient in Spanish, be licensed to practice law in the United States, and have substantial experience practicing immigration or human rights law. Background in community organizing and understanding of the immigration consequences of criminal convictions are preferred. Review of applications has begun, and will continue until the position is filled. To apply, send a letter of interest, c.v., references, and writing sample to Anjani Datla, the Center's Assistant Director, at anjani.datla@bc.edu.
