Rwanda to France: « J'accuse »

« C'est une bonne base pour d'éventuelles procédures légales ».
that is,
"It is a good basis for possible legal proceedings."
Thus commented Rwandan Attorney General Tharcisse Karugarama (below right) on the release yesterday of a Rwanda inquiry commission's 500-page report charging French officials, among them the late President François Mitterand, former Prime Minister Edouard Balladur and Dominique de Villepin, and former Foreign Ministers Alain Juppé and Hubert Védrine, as well as French military personnel, of criminal responsibility in the genocide that left more than 800,000 Rwandans dead in a matter of weeks in the spring of 1994. The 5-man, 2-woman commission was chaired by Rwanda's former Attorney General and Prosecutor General, Jean de Dieu Mucyo.
At a conference in Ireland this past spring, Karugarama, the current Rwandan justice minister, called upon other countries to step up their own prosecutions of fugitives from the 1994 genocide.
