... 1637, a girl was born in the castle of Heidecksburg, in what is now Germany. The castle belonged to her uncle, who, like her father, was a count; her family had been forced to take refuge in the uncle's castle during central Europe's Thirty Years War, which ended with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia. She was educated at the family castle along with her cousins, one of whom she married. That girl, Ämilie Juliane von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (right), became "the most productive of German female hymn-writers, some 600 hymns being attributed to her."
