Four weeks after the the 500th U.S. servicemember was killed in Afghanistan, and 3 days after 10 French soldiers were killed in an ambush there, here is the casualty count for that conflict and for the war in Iraq: According to Iraq Body Count, between 86,661 and 94,557 Iraqi women, children, and men have died in the conflict. That's an increase of between 349 and 383 deaths in the last 3 weeks. According to the U.S. Defense Department, 4,145 American servicemembers have been killed in Iraq. Total coalition fatalities: 4,459 persons. That's 21 servicemember deaths in the last 3 weeks, all of them Americans. Military casualties in the conflict in Afghanistan stand at 578 Americans and 360 other coalition servicemembers, an increase of 18 and 31, respectively, in the last 3 weeks.
