The Section on Financial Institutions and Consumer Financial Services of the Association of American Law Schools is calling for papers for AALS' 2010 Annual Meeting this January in New Orleans, Louisiana.Sought are papers to be presented at the Section's session entitled "Reforming the Institutional Structure of Financial Regulation," to be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2010. As the international community struggles to manage the current global financial and economic crisis, policymakers around the globe have proclaimed their commitment to domestic and international regulatory reform. There is widespread agreement thatthe current framework for financial regulation is ill-suited for promoting efficient financial markets or for preventing crises. In April of 2009, the G-20 countries expressly committed to strengthening their domestic financial regulatory regimes. In the US, the Obama Administration has stated that it intends to adopt significant reforms in the near- and medium-term. ... This program will evaluate the reform agendas articulated by the official sector in the US and abroad in light of the broader discussion about financial regulation among commentators, industry, and academics. ...
