... 1968 (40 years ago today), U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was fatally shot in the kitchen of Los Angeles' Ambassador Hotel "moments after he had made his victory statement in the California primary" for the Democratic Presidential nomination. The 42-year-old Kennedy, who'd served as Attorney General during the Presidency of his brother, John F. Kennedy, died hours later. ... 1895, in the House of Commons in Ottawa, a call for Canadian women's suffrage lost by a vote of 105 to 47. It had surfaced in the form of a resolution made a month earlier by House Member Nicholas Flood Davin, "an Ireland-born Canadian," who'd proposed

that in the opinion of the House, the privilege of voting for candidates for membership thereof should be extended to women possessing the qualifications which now entitle men to the electoral franchise.
