... 2001, an Algerian who'd been living in Canada, Ahmed Ressam, was convicted twice in 1 day, in France and in the United States. The former conviction, delivered in absentia, related to charges of belonging to a "support network" of terrorists. On March 25, 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument in an appeal of the latter conviction and sentence; newly installed Attorney General Michael B. Mukasey argued on behalf of the United States. The case of United States v. Ressam is now under advisement.
