... 1957, Mona Ingeborg Andersson (right) was born in Sollefteå, Västernorrland County, Sweden. She showed an early interest in politics; by the age of 16 she'd joined the Swedish Social Democratic Youth League. Elected in 1982 to the Riksdag -- the youngest person in that parliamentary body at that time -- she went on to serve as Sweden's Minister for Employment, Minister for Gender Equality, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister without Portfolio. The party of Mona Sahlin -- she uses her married name -- has been out of power since January 2007. On March 17 of that year, she became Chairman of Sweden's Social Democratic Party, the 1st woman ever to hold that position. The office puts her in line to become Prime Minister should the party regain power. (photo credit)
