It's (almost) our birthday, and ...

... we'll celebrate if we want to. Yes, 1 year ago today IntLawGrrls voiced its 1st "Heartfelt Hello." Here's what we said:

Our world is a jumble of peoples, a mix of culture and custom, a marketplace of markets as well as ideas. We come together in amazing ways, yet clash in ways that bring destruction and dismay. Women now have a hand in our world’s affairs: think Albright and Arbour, del Ponte and Higgins, Ginsburg and Rice. Yet our voices remain faint, in backrooms and in the blogosphere. IntLawGrrls – women who teach and work in international law, policy and practice – hope to change all that. We embrace foremothers' names to encourage crisp commentary, delivered at times with a dash of sass. We welcome replies, and we look forward to fresh dialogue on the matters of the day.
It's our world, after all.
In gestation beginning February 14, 2007
Due date March 3, 2007 – Grrls’ Day in Japan

A lot's changed since then. We've gone from the original couple-few of us to 23 members today, plus 5 IntLawGrrls guests/alumnae. Though now we write in our own names, we continue to dedicate our work to our transnational foremothers. Far from silent, we've contributed well over 900 posts since that 1st day. More than 32,000 of you have visited. More and more of you visit us regularly, for which we give our heartfelt thanks.
As we revisit what the blogosphere'd call our soft-launch phase, we thank you for support and hope that you, too, look forward to celebrating our 1st birthday.
