... 1970, The Supremes gave their final performance, at the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The group had been formed 6 years earlier by Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, and Florence Ballard, "three skinny girls" just out of their teens who lived in Detroit's Brewster housing projects. As seen in the photo at right and in this music video, this "most popular female group of the Sixties" was dressed and coiffed identically, in the high fashion of the times. Its signature Motown sound won 12 #1 hit singles before the group disbanded when Ross set out on a solo career. (image credit)
... 2007 (today), the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women begins its 40th session, which will run for the next 2 weeks at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The Committee's set to review reports, on state party compliance with the Women's Convention, from Bolivia, Burundi, Saudi Arabia, France, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Morocco, and Sweden.
