Both remain on the Court to this day.... 1936, Jesse Owens (right), Alabama-born "son of sharecroppers and the grandson of slaves," won a gold medal in the 100-meter dash at the XIth Olympic Games in Germany. In the course of the games the African-American athelete would win 4 gold medals, and so give the lie to the master-race theories of Adolf Hitler, the leader of the host country. For this achievement the International Olympic Committee calls Owens "The Hero of Berlin."
