... 2007 (today), all good Celts celebrate Lughnasa, a harvest festival said to be dedicated by the Irish god Lugh to his foster mother Tailtiu, "who died from exhaustion after clearing a great forest so that the land could be cultivated." This "most joyous" holiday's been a time not only for music and dancing, as indicated by Dancing at Lugnasa, Brian Friel's play about "five remarkable women" -- but also for 1-year "trial marriages."
