The following day delegates unanimously adopted the 1848 Declaration -- the text of which parallels the 1776 American Declaration of Independence, and so includes phrasing such as, "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal ..."... 1980, the XXII Olympic Games opened in Moscow with a record-low number of countries participating, as scores of countries joined a boycott called by U.S. President Jimmy Carter to protest the 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
