More women journalists shot dead

Zakia Zaki, a 38-year-old Afghan journalist was shot dead by unknown gunmen in her home north of Kabul on Tuesday night as she slept beside her 10-month-old baby. Shot seven times, Zaki was the mother of six children, director of a private local radio station in Jabal-us-Siraj, an advocate for women's rights, headmistress of a high school for girls, and a representative from Parwan Province to the national tribal assemblies that laid the foundations for the post-Taliban era and government. The third Afghan journalist to be shot this year, Zaki’s killing followed by six days that of Shekiba Sanga Amaaj, a 22-year-old reporter and anchorwoman on a private television station in Kabul. Add these killings to that of Anna Politkovskaya in Russia and you might begin to wonder if someone out there isn't thinking that the only good woman journalist is a dead one.
