... 1902, Leni Riefenstahl was born in Berlin, Germany. After working as a dancer and actress, she turned to film-making in the early 1930s. She is (in)famous for producing 2 films, "Triumph of the Will" and "Olympia," that, though award-winning, nonetheless were condemned as pro-Nazi propaganda. After World War II she continued to work as a photographer and cinematographer. Her efforts continued to stir controversy; indeed, examination of just 2 items (here and here) demonstrates the differences of opinion about her. Riefenstahl died at age 101. ... 1910, by Treaty, Japan annexed Korea, which had been a protectorate. The move effectively colonized Korea. As recently as 1995, a claim by Japan's Prime Minister that the annexation had been "legal" aroused anger in both North and South Korea.
