competitors that year.... 1793 (215 years ago today), French revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat was stabbed in his bathtub by Charlotte Corday, who sympathized with the royalist opposition. Among the many depictions of the assassination is that at right, painted by Paul Jacques Aimé Baudry in 1860, during the 2d Empire, when Corday was seen as a heroine. (credit)
